Q1 What is Amicizia Italian Society Sligo?
Amicizia was set up in 1995 by Louisa McConville, an Italian living in Sligo, and has developed into a society interested in all things Italian. Amicizia aims to promote the Italian language and culture among its members. Activities include language classes and cultural and social events. Each year a cultural/educational trip is organised to Italy. For more details email amicizia.sligo@gmail.com
Q 2 Do I have to be able to speak Italian to join?
No. Classes are run at beginner, intermediate and advanced level each year.
Q 3 When are classes run?
Classes run from September to March in 2 x 11 week terms. For details on start dates check Facebook, email amicizia.sligo@gmail.com and also check the Social and Personal section of the Sligo Champion/Weekender at the beginning of September and beginning of January of each year. Dates will also be posted on our Website.
Q 4 Can I sign up for classes at any time?
It is advisable for beginners to start in September, as January is the continuation of the previous term. Persons with some Italian may be able to join at another point in our year.
Q 5 Who teaches the classes?
Native Italian speakers, who live and work locally, and are excellent advocates for the Italian culture and language.
Q 6 Is Amicizia just about learning Italian?
No. Although members have a common interest in learning and speaking Italian, there are a number of cultural and educational activities organised which include; Italian films, meals and travel to Italy.
Q 7 What type of cultural events are organised?
Amicizia has links with the Sligo Film Society and Con Brio among other organisations. Events include films, concerts, meals and other activities. Check the Amicizia Facebook page regularly for updates on events.
Q 8 What does it cost to join?
The current cost is €160 for a term of 11 x 2 hour classes plus the annual membership of €30, payable at the beginning of the year. The membership fee provides subsidies for cultural events, meals, films, etc, and pays for our rooms and the teachers. Each year we organise a trip to Italy to attend school and visit the chosen area.
Q 9 Can I join Amicizia and attend cultural events but not attend classes?
Yes. You may become a Social member for €30 per year and attend any social/cultural events of your choosing.

Q 11 Do I need to have a Facebook profile to view the Amicizia Society page?
No. You can view the Amicizia Facebook page without having a Facebook profile as it is public. However, in order to Post to the page or comment on a post/event, or to ‘Like‘ the page, you must have your own Facebook profile.
Q 12 How do I go about joining Amicizia Italian Society, Sligo?
